Roy Watterson started his Foundation because he felt this was a great way to give back to his community and give children the opportunity to experience the mentorship and support he received during his school age and College years.
He started playing Football at the age of 9 years old. While attending Morse Elementary School Roy pursued his love for the sport and continued throughout Junior High and High School years. With the support of family and community, he continued his love for Football while attending Marist College in Poughkeepsie. His sportsmanship and talent on the football field led him the position of being ranked 3rd in the nation.
He eventually received the opportunity to join the All-American second team and participated in the pro trials with the New England Patriots, Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Canada, The New York Giants and the Indianapolis Colts. Roy also had the opportunity to participate, as a free agent and several football camps during his short tour with the Pro Football League.
After his football career, he decided to work as a lieutenant in the prison system in the state of Florida. He became a big brother counselor and continued that role for over 45 years. When he retired from the State of Florida prison system, he returned to Poughkeepsie, NY to do what he loves to do.
